Airbus A350-900 accident report
Tuesday 2 January 2024 Japan Airlines A350-941 JA13XJ c/n 538
DSP Flight JL516 from Sapporo (CTS) to Tokyo (HND) with 12 crew and 367 passengers. On landing at RW 34R the A350 collided with a Japan Coast Guard De Havilland DHC-8-315Q MPA reg. JA722A. At the impact the nose landing gear was torn of the A350 and it caught fire. The aircraft slid along the runway for 1700m and then coming to rest beside the runway, 200m from RW 16L threshold.
All passenger could evacuate the A350 before it was totally destroyed by fire. There were 15 injured, most lightly.
5 crew of the DHC-8 died, only the captain survived, however critical injured, with severe burns. The DHC-8 should have hold at taxiway C5, but due to misunderstandings the DHC-8 had entered the runway for take-off.
